Green 3-Day Delivery
As part of the University’s continued commitment to institute environmentally responsible business practices, General Stores will be implementing a “Green Tuesday & Thursday” initiative.
Effective October 1, 2013 office supplies will only be delivered three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday) at University Park. Customers can still place orders any time online through eBuy, but office supplies will not be delivered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We appreciated our customers’ feedback. In April 2013, an eight (8) question survey was sent out to General Stores customers to gather feedback on switching from the current 4-day a week delivery of office products to 3-days a week. Nearly 70% of the 1,200 respondents said they agreed switching to a 3-day delivery week (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) was a good idea. We trust that you will agree with us that the environmental benefits will far out way any inconvenience. The “Green Tuesday & Thursday” initiative will have a positive environmental impact. The mileage saved per year by eliminating two days of delivery per week exceeds the circumference of the Earth. In addition, our carbon footprint will be reduced by 57,160 pounds annually (equivalent to removing 220 cars from the road or planting almost 9,000 trees) and we will save about 3,000 gallons of fuel per year. We hope this will lead to a consolidation of orders (increased order size) reducing the amount of boxes and packaging materials used, and will help us improve efficiency and save the University money.
Janitorial products and cylinder gases will continue to be delivered on a daily basis, Monday-Friday.
General Stores continues to look for innovative and effective ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. We trust you will agree with us that the environmental benefits of the “Green Tuesday & Thursday” initiative will far outweigh any inconvenience.
